WHO declares monkeypox global health emergency

Though the risk of contagion is moderate globally, the WHO director general notes the risk in Europe is high.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the monkeypox outbreak a global health emergency, its highest level of alert, reports Reuters.

Despite the conclusion, WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said Saturday at a press briefing that there was disagreement among the authority’s experts about whether the classification was accurate.
