Competition council forces Coloplast to adjust prices in Denmark
Coloplast temporarily adjust its prices on ostomy products to wholesalers that distribute to Danish municipalities.
This all happens after the Danish Competition Council has warned the company about an injunction to change prices, as the competition authorities fear that Coloplast is abusing its dominant position in the Danish market, the Danish Competition Authority writes in a press statement.
Coloplast thus commits to temporarily changing its pricing behavior when selling ostomy aids to Danish municipalities.
”As a competition authority, we have concerns that Coloplast Denmark is abusing its dominant position to drive competitors out of the market for the sale of ostomy aids to municipalities. Our immediate assessment is that Coloplast Denmark is gradually eliminating the competitive pressure from competing wholesalers,” says Christian Schultz, Chairman of the Danish Competition Council, in the announcement.
To MedWatch, the pharmaceutical company denies that it has acted critically, and disagrees with the competition council’s assessment of the case.
”Having said that, we of course recognize the importance of healthy competition in the Danish market,” writes Martin Kiil, CEO of Coloplast Denmark and the Nordic region, in an email to MedWatch.
