GN will retain a good part of its research and development activities within true wireless earbuds, even though the consumer business, to which the products belong, is being phased out, according to an analysis note from British Barclays, which has spoken to GN chief executive Peter Karlstromer.

The note states that GN will retain the majority of its R&D activities as an insurance policy for the future in Enterprise and Gaming.

According to Barclays’ release, the reason is that over time there may be a shift in the trend from over-ear to in-ear headphones like those found in the consumer business.

Therefore, GN sees it as crucial to keep knowledge of this area in the business, according to Barclays.

Until now, over-ear headphones have been the preferred solution in both Gaming and Enterprise because it allows for technology such as noise cancellation.
