UK buys 20,000 smallpox vaccines from Bavarian Nordic as demand soars

The UK has purchased doses of Bavarian Nordic’s smallpox vaccine, which can also be used to protect against monkeypox. Germany has already ordered 40,000 doses, and other EU countries are expressing interest.

Health authorities in the UK have ordered 20,000 smallpox vaccines from Danish firm Bavarian Nordic.

According to Reuters, this is happening to ensure a sufficient supply to vaccinate people who are in risk groups for monkeypox infections.
