EU countries approve new powers for disease prevention agency

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) will now have more tools at its disposal to monitor and handle future epidemics. "Today's deal is state of the art monitoring," say EU sources.

BRUSSELS – From now on, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) will have more power to monitor European healthcare systems and take independent action.

This was approved by both the European Parliament and the EU's member states on Monday evening.
