US senators behind over-the-counter hearing aid sales legislation: Get started on sales guidelines!

Two senators responsible for the legislation concerning over-the-counter hearing aid sales in the US are once again addressing the FDA, now demanding that the authority introduces the public and hearing aid industry to the framework surrounding future hearing aid sales - "without further delay".

The handling of the Covid-19 situation in the US has created challenges and extra work for employees at the US health authority FDA (Food and Drug Administration, -ed.), but enough is enough.

Here and now, the authorities need to present the future framework for the selling of hearing aids without involving audiologists to the public and to the hearing aid industry, according to two central US senators – the Republican Chuck Grassley and the Democrat Elizabeth Warren, who joined forces and took the initiative for the legislation concerning over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aids in the US, which was passed in 2017, and which should originally have been implemented in August 2020 at the latest.
